The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA -is a 35 faith tradition encompassing 45 million Americans in 100,000 local congregations . . . joining hands and voices in witness to their unity in Christ.
With the blessings of the Metropolitans of the American Diocese, Rev. Dr. P.C. Thomas, Rev. Dn. Paul Cherian, Mrs. Susan Varghese and Ms. Asha Thomas attended the National Council of Churches in Christ and Church World Services General Assembly at the Renaissance Hotel, Denver, Colorado from Tuesday, November 11- Thursday, November 13, 2008. The theme of this year’s Assembly was St. Luke 9: 50: “Jesus said … Whoever is not against you is for you.”
The 100th anniversary of the National Council of Churches, which traces its origins to the founding of the Federal Council of Churches in December 1908, was also celebrated.
As part of the Assembly, the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church led the Morning Prayers on Thursday.
For the conflict in India, a resolution to ban the violence in Orissa, India was proposed by the Mar Thoma Church and signed by the delegates of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
Member communions, as an expression of their commitment to seek visible unity through the National Council of Churches, will aggressively promote a vision of authentic common life as an alternative to that prevalent in contemporary American culture.
This was a wonderful opportunity for the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church to dialogue with Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox and Protestant faiths.
