The delegation from the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in America has begun preparations to participate in the annual General Assembly of the National Council of Churches USA.
This year’s annual assembly will take place from November 10-12, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The NCC is commited to being a “community of Christian communions who, in response to the Gospel as revealed in the Scriptures, confess Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God, as Savior and Lord. These communions covenant with one another to manifest ever more fully the unity of the Church. Relying upon the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, these communions come together as the General Assembly in common mission, serving in all creation to the glory of God.”
This year’s Malankara Orthodox delegation to the NCC include Their Graces Zachariah Mar Nicholovos (Assistant Metropolitan of the Northeast American Diocese), Alexios Mar Eusebius (Metropolitan of the Southwest American Diocese), Rev. Fr. Dr. P. C. Thomas, Rev. Dn. Paul Cherian, Mrs. Susan Varghese & Ms. Asha Thomas.
The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church was received as the 35th member of the NCC’s General Assembly in November of 1998 in Chicago.
